We have little to complain about, about the weather, in Portland. Not as cold as Minnesota or Massachusetts in the winter, less humid and more sunny in the summer, with cool nights to offset the day's heat. It just softens us up for when the real weather happens. Back in La Grande in the '70s we'd joke scornfully about how Portlanders would close down the city after two inches of snow (as they still do). Wimps, we are.
So today was officially 87 degrees (my car read 91), low humidity, with lots of breezes. And it started out in the low 60's and already at 9:30 pm it's back down to 73. But it hit Andrew and I like a ton of bricks. We did not make much progress today.
We did rip up the porch floor.

Okay, Andrew ripped up the porch floor. We didn't put it back together again however. There is a 20 inch wide strip of boards remaining in front of the door -- our morning paper is sure to fall into the hole, the crawl space, between concrete steps and front door.

The picture of Percy and the picture of Andrew echo one another. Yet Percy is asleep as only a cat can sleep and Andrew is hard at work...
Okay, I understand putting storage under the porch, the stairs, doors, and bricks but why do you need to rip up the floorboards on the porch and why rip them up at this point? Wouldn't it have been easier to dig out the crawl space without the porch floor in place?
Wow, that's an excellent question, Rob!
Andrew, Amy? You didn't think this through?
So, I can imagine that this blog could quickly become a special kind of hell on earth...for you. All the effort and risk on one side--the 99% perspiration--and on the other, your extended family commenting on your efforts. All the exposure, none of the love.
Next we'll start with personal comments, of the "You need a haircut, Andrew." or "Putting on some weight???" sort...heh!
This may be a fun...for us. Unless I teach Mom how to comment, in which case we'll all have to be on good behavior again.
Puts my simple hearth rebuilding to shame.
More please, what else have you done?
Caro
