Scenery as art

Eastern Montana: a half finished statue by Michelangelo. Rough-hewn, magnificent. (Michelangelo's Blockhead Slave)

North Dakota, cleansed after a rainstorm: a pointillist painting. Every inch cultivated. (Paul Signat, Road to Gennevelliers)

Minnesota, between drifting thunderstorms: a plein air impressionist painting. (Claude Monet, Seine Basin with Argenteuill)

Sometimes I think that my affection for Southwestern France is because it looks a lot like areas in Minnesota & Wisconsin that I love.

These paintings are confirmatory evidence that others also see the resemblance.
