Pirate in Motion

Getting into character.

To answer some queries:

We realized there was no parrot too late to get one. We did try to black out some teeth -- but hadn't realized our tooth black-out goop had been thrown out after Halloween. Brown eye pencil worked quite effectively for making his teeth look like he hadn't brushed in decades, but invisible in the darkness of the cozy read-time classroom (he had a tot of rum in advance to help get in character, but I doubt the children recognized the scent).

The name of the book he read was, How I Became A Pirate, by Melinda Long, (illustrations by David Shannon). And then he read, Winnie the Witch, by Valerie Thomas (illustations by Korky Paul) -- "his first mate's favorite book". (Images care of amazon.com.)
