Friday Cat Blogging

HomoDomi is continually making little zen spaces around the house and garden. Just outside one of my windows is the poetry cabinet -- a bistro table (chair added when the weather is nice enough to sit there), and a board with poems and found objects, protected from the elements by a little door.

I noticed that the cats often use it as a napping spot. It overlooks much of the backyard, and gets morning sun (when there is any) and is in the rain shadow of the eaves (for when there is not sun). A good place to see without being seen, and stay dry. The table is metal, which must be cold on little cat paws and bellies in the winter.

A couple of years ago, while obsessed with Farscape, I knitted three "kitty pi's". These are cat-sized cups of felted wool, easy-peasy to knit, and great for feeling productive while watching television. One is beloved of the cats -- the orangey one shown above and below -- but the other two are ignored. (The blue, green and yellow striped one is shown during the drying process. It is rarely slept upon, as is the black one with fuzz on it, which I don't have a photo of.) Placement is not an issue -- put a ill-favored pi in a favored spot, and the spot falls out of favor. Fickle things, felines.

We had a heat blast last weekend -- temperatures in the high '90s (98 F, 36.6 C), breaking records by 10 degrees or so. It rarely gets that hot here in August, not to mention in May. Now the kitty pi may serve as protection against heat rather than cold. Tasha certainly seemed to enjoy it.

The picture of Natasha is one of the best cat pictures yet. Wonderful.
